Billy Elliot - Synopsis

Billy Elliot follows an eleven year old boys fight to overcome the prejudice of people in his home town, a mining town in northern England. The story is set in 1984 when the miners strike is in full swing. Billy's passion for dancing, in particular ballet dancing, doesn't sit comfortably with his immediate family.

Billy's family do not dance and they certainly do not harbour ambitions of attending the Royal Ballet School. But Billy is different. With gritty determination he attempts to prove doubters wrong, and make his single father proud of him.
